Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux’s Post-Breakup Friendship Warms My Heart
Now that recent events have established that Keanu Reeves is doing great, it’s time to check in on Jennifer Aniston. While the tabloid media would have us believe the Morning Show star is in a perennial state of romantic devastation (even when she is clearly thriving), Aniston seems to have a heartwarmingly friendly relationship with her ex-husband Justin Theroux, according to a meticulous dissection of Instagram comments and tags.
On Thursday Theroux tagged Aniston and their friend Selena Gomez in an Instagram post urging his followers to adopt a few adorable dogs from Venture County Animal Services. “Yep, now that you’re on here, your gonna get this a lot too,” Theroux wrote to Aniston, who joined Instagram last month and already has 18.6 million followers. Insta sleuths quickly noted that Aniston liked Theroux’s post.
True Aniston acolytes know the tag is rife with meaning because the couple’s beloved German shepherd, Dolly, died this past July, as Theroux also shared on Instagram. His caption said the pup was “surrounded by her entire family” and pictures of a woman’s hand in Dolly’s funeral photos were presumed to be Aniston’s. (Please note that Aniston is such a dog lover that she has the name of another former pet, Norman, tattooed on her foot.)
Further confirmation of Aniston and Theroux’s amicable post-breakup relationship after what he called their “heartbreaking” yet “gentle” divorce in 2018: Theroux recently told Entertainment Tonight that Aniston made damn sure her ex was following her on Instagram. “She actually texted me,” Theroux said. “She said, ‘You haven’t followed me,’ and I said, ‘Of course I followed you!’ And she’s like, ‘No, you haven’t!’ I realized I was one of the people caught in the glitch.... Aniston and Theroux join the many emotionally healthy celebrities who maintain positive, even downright loving ties to their exes: Gwyneth Paltrow hangs Chris Martin’s Christmas stocking along with those of Apple, Moses, and her second husband, Brad Falchuk. Anna Faris was actually thrilled when her ex Chris Pratt got engaged to Katherine Schwarzenegger. May the rest of us mere mortals one day be this evolved. Until then I’ll rest easy knowing Aniston and Theroux will be there for each other—like they’ve been there before.
