'You have no clue what's going on with me personally': Jennifer Aniston on 'hurtful' pregnancy rumours

Jennifer Aniston is opening up about the "hurtful" pregnancy rumours that have plagued her throughout her career.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 52-year-old actress admitted that tabloid and public speculation over whether or not she chose "career over kids" was initially very difficult for her to manage.

"People certainly project onto you and all that, but my job is to go, 'Listen, I'll show you what I'm capable of, and you decide if you want to subscribe,'" she said. "So you disappear as much as you can, you have fun, you take on these weird roles, you don't give a s—, you enjoy yourself, you remember that you have a gorgeous group of friends and your life is blessed and you do the best that you can."

Aniston said the fascination and obsession with her personal life never took into account what was really going on behind closed doors.

"It's like, 'You have no clue what's going with me personally, medically, why I can't … can I have kids?' They don't know anything, and it was really hurtful and just nasty," Aniston continued. "What the tabloids and the media did to people's personal lives back then, regular people are doing now [on social media]. Although I haven't seen a tabloid in so long. Am I still having twins? Am I going to be the miracle mother at 52?"

Aniston explained that while tabloids started and fuelled rumours long before the internet existed, social media has only made it easier to highlight the "cruel streak" in society.

"It's almost like the media handed over the sword to any Joe Schmo sitting behind a computer screen to be a troll or whatever they call them and bully people in comment sections," she said.

This isn't the first time that Aniston has hit back at pregnancy rumours. In 2017, the "We're The Millers" actress told Glamour that whether or not she is pregnant is "nobody's business."

“If your body is in a normal moment of having had a bite or two, or you’re having a moment of bloat, then there are arrows circled around your stomach, telling you that you’re pregnant,” she said. “And it’s like, actually no, it’s just my body.”
