  • The Beverly Hills 90210 reboot BH90210 will not be coming back for a season 2 on Fox, the network announced.

  • Still, BH90210 cast members Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling hinted that the show might still go on.

  • BH90210 premiered on August 7, debuting to impressive ratings.

Friday morning, Beverly Hills 90210 fans woke up to the devastating news that the meta reboot BH90210 will not be returning for season 2 on Fox. This announcement comes after BH90210 struggled to maintain strong ratings despite earning stellar premiere numbers on its August 7 debut.

"We are so proud to have reunited in a very special summer event one of the network's legacy series and casts with 90210 fans across the country," Fox declared in a statement. "Profound thanks to and respect for Brian, Gabrielle, Ian, Jason, Jennie, Shannen and Tori, who, along with the entire crew and everyone at FOX and CBS Television Studios, poured their hearts and souls into this truly inventive and nostalgic revival."

While it's a giant bummer that the revival of the beloved '90s series won't be returning on Fox, Jennie Garth gave fans a glimmer of hope on Twitter last night. Prior to several reports surfacing that the network would not be picking up another season of BH90210, the actress told fans to "stay tuned" in her latest tweet.

"Summers highest rated show gets more meta by the minute #bh90210 practically writes itself! Thank you for the 2nd season material You never know what’s really going on behind the scenes! Stay tuned," she wrote.

In response to the cryptic tweet, many BH90210 fans begged Jennie to clarify what she meant. "Does this mean there’s hope? I’m literally clinging onto every ounce of hope I can get. You guys are truly the best!" one fan tweeted. "@jenniegarth give us some good news. We need it so badly. #bh90210 army has been heart broken today. We love you soooo much!!! #savebh90210," another said.

Jennie's tweet isn't the only reason fans are flustered and/or confused right now. Besides Jennie, Tori Spelling also shared a long message on her Instagram yesterday that made it sound like season 2 was still happening.

"Our show is so meta that all the reality out there just helps us continue to evolve and gives us GREAT new storylines! The gift that keeps on giving," she captioned alongside a photo of herself in a poofy red dress. "We aim to keep audiences guessing what will happen next. So stay tuned as our journey unfolds..."

Maybe this is a sign that the Beverly Hills 90210 revival will go on ... just, not on Fox. After all, Gabrielle Carteris told ET recently that the show "wasn't technically canceled" and that fans "might be surprised" because "some things are happening."

"I think that it was such an incredible journey and that's why I don't think this is it," she said. "There's some talk going on right now and we're gonna see what happens."

Please, please, PLEASE let there be good news soon!
