If you haven't watched Wednesday on Netflix yet, 1) why not? and 2) why not? The smash series literally broke the internet when it dropped last month, and its lead actor, Jenna Ortega, has since catapulted to next-level fame because of it. Not just for her innovative portrayal of the iconic character, but for her investment and involvement in the show, too.

From choreographing the now-viral dance scene to actually learning the cello, the 20-year-old actor has now revealed that she fought for a "cringe" line to be removed from the script, as she didn't think it was very fitting.

For some context, the show revolves around Wednesday, who is enrolled at Nevermore Academy - her parent's old school - after being expelled from her high school. The character is known for her emotionless personality, and Jenna has been praised for her performance, with many saying that she perfectly captured the fine line between Wednesday being unlike her peers without actively trying to be different.

But in a recent Netflix Q&A that has now gone viral on TikTok, the Jane the Virgin star said this wasn't always the case. When speaking about the dress that Tyler had bought for her to wear to the prom (the same one she'd seen on display in an antique shop window with Thing), she revealed that originally, there was meant to be dialogue.

"I remember there’s a line where I’m talking about a dress and initially she was supposed to say: 'Oh my god I’m freaking out over a dress, I literally hate myself,'" she recalled.

"And I was blown away," she continued, "it was just a bunch of little things like that where I felt like we were able to avoid a lot of dialogue in an attempt to make her sound human."

Since opening up about this conscious decision, fans of the show have praised Jenna for refusing to let Wednesday become a "pick me" character - someone who goes out of their way to appear quirky. Some of the comments on the TikTok video have even suggested she "saved the show" because of it.

"Gotta give credits to actors who know their characters better than the writers sometimes," one viewer wrote, as another said: "Can we get Jenna in the writers room next season?"

"Omg they were trying to make her a pick me," a third commented, as a fourth typed: "Yeah she definitely saved this show."

Wednesday is now streaming on Netflix.
