And so the saga of Jenna Bush Hager and the allegedly haunted White House continues.

If you haven’t kept up, Jenna and her mom, Laura Bush are currently in a disagreement over whether or not ghosts reside in the White House. In October 2020, Jenna appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show where she told the story of what she and her sister Barbra Bush experienced as a “musical” paranormal encounter. This week, Laura visited Kelly and dismissed her daughters’ account.

“I think Barbara and Jenna were the ones that felt like it was haunted and pretended like they heard voices,” she said. “It’s probably just the Secret Service talking down the hall in the other room that they heard. But we didn’t think it was haunted.”

But Jenna is not backing down. On the May 18 Unscripted segment of Today with Hoda & Jenna, she once again defended her case. Previously on The Kelly Clarkson Show, she explained that it all happened when she and Barbara were going to bed, then the phone rang and they heard what she described as “1920s piano music” coming from their fireplace. “And I was like, surely it was the cat, or something. We had to pretend, in the middle of the night,” she said. “But you could feel the music coming out of the fireplace.”

On Today, Jenna offered further explanation. “What we did to put ourselves to sleep—there is a piano outside our room—we pretended the cat must’ve gotten onto the piano.” she said.

But to make her story even more credible, she named another witness. “There’s an incredible man, Buddy, who still works at the White House. We adored him,” Jenna said. “And I said, ‘Buddy, you wouldn’t believe what Barbara and I heard last night.’ And he said, ‘Oh Jenna, you wouldn’t believe what I’ve seen in these walls.’ So who do we believe?”

Refuting her mom’s Secret Service claim, she also added: “Can we do some research into ‘Can the Secret Service play 1920s piano music?’”

Jenna even offered to call Barbara while on the show to vouch for her. “Buddy is on my team. My sister is on my team. I love my mom but the ghost might not have been into her,” she laughed.

In 2018, Jenna shared the same story on Today adding that “the next week, we heard the same thing, but opera,” insisting that the ghosts “came with good intentions” and were “friendly.”

Perhaps former President George W. Bush will be the tie breaker? If anyone in their family could confirm the White House is haunted, it would be him.
