Jeffrey & Ina Garten Reveal Their Secret to Long–Distance Love in Honor of 50th Anniversary

Ina Garten and her husband, Jeffrey, just revealed the secret to their 50-year marriage, and we’re totally blushing.

In honor of their wedding anniversary on December 22, the couple discussed their marriage in an interview with People and revealed how they overcame not one, but two long-distance chapters. (Jeffrey not only went on an Army deployment to Thailand, but he also relocated to Japan for his job at Lehman Brothers.)

To maintain their relationship, Jeffrey pulled a Noah Calhoun from The Notebook and “wrote to Ina every single day.”

According to the Barefoot Contessa star, Jeffrey even timed the letters. “He used to write me notes all day, and he would fax them to me at night so when I woke up in the morning, I had them,” she said.

To this day, Jeffrey swears by (written) words of affirmation when they’re apart. “When we’re not together, I’ll send her five or six texts per day,” he added. “I love looking at her schedule. I can envision where she is and what she’s doing, and it doesn’t feel like we’re apart. If I could be with her seven days a week, 24 hours a day, that would be my ideal.”
