Hardcore NASCAR fans are going to notice something weird in Pepsi’s Super Bowl commercial.
Didn’t catch it or have the opportunity to watch the ad above? Here’s a screenshot.
Yes, it says “Monte Carlo” on the front of Gordon’s car. The type of car Gordon is driving is not a Monte Carlo.
Chevrolet replaced the Monte Carlo in NASCAR in 2008 by the Impala when the car was dropped from the manufacturer’s production car lineup. The car in the commercial is the Cup Series car Chevrolet used from 2013-2017 and branded as the “SS.”
Is this a big deal? Hell no, we’re not calling for the ad to be redone and/or boycotted. But it’s an annoying and unnecessary mistake that NASCAR fans are going to notice if they’re paying close attention.
Chevy is introducing the Camaro into the Cup Series in 2018, unofficially starting with the Advance Auto Parts Clash on Feb. 11.
