Jayson Werth was 'inspired' after attending Trump's State of the Union as a farmer

Former Washington Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth is one of the few free agents who isn’t worried about being unsigned right now. If things don’t work out in baseball, he can just focus on farming.

No, for real. Werth is so serious about his organic farm that he was the guest of Illinois Congressman Rodney Davis at President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday night.

Jayson Werth will be attending the State of the Union tonight, a guest of Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.). Werth's organic farm is in Davis's district.

There’s a lot to unpack there. Yes, Jayson Werth is apparently somewhat interested in politics. Yes, he’s passionate about organic farming. Yes, he was even willing to wear a suit and tie and put his hair up in a bun in order to attend the State of the Union.

So, what was his verdict of the event?

Jayson Werth #SOTU reaction: "I was really inspired."

There you go. He was “really inspired.”

Werth’s fascination with farming started just before joining the Nationals, according to Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post. He stopped eating gluten and dairy, and decided to start his own farm in Illinois. Werth was lobbying for organic farmers in December when he met Rodney Davis.

Go ahead and read that last sentence again, because it feels like a baseball mad lib come to life.

The more we think about it, though, it’s not really shocking to imagine Jayson Werth working on a farm in retirement. We can see that.

Going into politics … now that’s a tough one to picture.
