Aquaman star Jason Momoa brought some much needed levity to the Oscars, with the actor burping during the presentation for the Best Sound award.
Amid an evening filled with enough drama, tension, and excitement to last us until next year's Academy Awards, Momoa prompted genuine bafflement from viewers when he presented the Oscar for Best Sound alongside Josh Brolin.
Ahead of delivering the Oscar to Dune, Momoa belched into the microphone in a well-timed and seemingly deliberate moment – and viewers, unsurprisingly, kind of loved it.
Audiences heralded Momoa's burp as an iconic Oscar bit for the ages, with some calling it both "hilarious" and "genius".
Best Sound, indeed.
“Okay, team. ABC won’t let us broadcast every category. The audience is upset, and they’ll be judging every spare moment because of it. So these have to be the best jokes you’ve ever written.”
“Jason Momoa burps?”

#Dune wins Best Sound Editing. Well-deserved.
And the Jason Mamoa burp was hilarious. #Oscars— Ron Clements (@Ron_Clements) March 28, 2022
Jason Momoa’s burp got a real laugh out of me. Too bad they had a 20-minute bit ahead of them and they couldn’t be trusted to read the envelope.

Publishing a think piece tomorrow about Jason’s burp being a righteous primal scream against what the Oscars have become.

Elsewhere, in other shocking Oscars news, Will Smith stunned his peers and those watching along at home by confronting presenter Chris Rock while he was on the stage after the comedian and presenter made a joke at his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's expense.
Smith and Rock had a decidedly awkward exchange after the altercation, leading Smith to apologise while accepting his Oscar for Best Actor just a short while after.
"Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams," Smith said, referring to his role as Venus and Serena Williams' father in King Richard. "But love will make you do crazy things."
He added: "I want to be an ambassador of that kind of love and care and concern. I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees."
The Oscars was also criticized for its song choices while introducing guest presenters, with Toto's 'Africa' and Madonna's 'La Isla Bonita' playing as Daniel Kaluuya and HER and Stephanie Beatriz walked out, respectively.
Of course, there were plenty of reasons to celebrate, too – and you can find the full list of this year's Oscars winners here.
