Dressing up as your favorite Nintendo “Mario Kart” character and hitting the streets of Tokyo seems like a blast, right? According to some tourists, who’ve shared their speedy adventures on social media, the go-kart experience is a lot of fun. However, an increase in accidents has caused the transport ministry to revise the traffic rules for go-kart tours.
Not to worry, people can still dress up, but they’ll need to wear a seat belt. The new laws will require go-karts to have direction indicators, rearview mirrors, and a headrest; use soft materials for the handle; and have a fender to prevent clothes from being caught in the wheels. The Road Transport Vehicle Act will be revised by next March.
