Major January holidays including New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, and Lunar New Year may come to mind when you think of the first month in 2023. Between January 1st and January 31st, though, there are a range of fun holidays, historical days of remembrance, and weeks devoted to particular themes like New Year's resolutions, happiness, and food. January holidays encompass the meaningful, the funny, and the absurd, which sounds like the perfect start to the year ahead.

The month of January brings awareness to the prevention of human trafficking as well as braille literacy and bath safety. It is also National Mentoring and Blood Donor month. Throughout the weeks, there are days set aside to remember historical moments in history. These weeks and days can weigh heavy on the heart, but there is a balance of lighter observances that offer the perfect amount of odd humor to make you smile. Some days to look forward to include National Bagel Day, Dress Up Your Pet Day, Cheese Lover's Day, and Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day.

As you open your 2023 calendar for the first time, reference the following list of January holidays and observances — and be sure to mark all the ones that hold meaning for you so you can plan to celebrate or honor with friends and family.
