Janelle Monáe Drops 2 Videos—And 11 Killer Looks—In One Day
While one new Janelle Monáe video is a blessing in itself, two new clips on the same day are downright thrilling. The multitalented artist—she’s the head of her own record label, an acclaimed actress, and a boundary-pushing dresser, to boot—announced her new album, Dirty Computer, just last week as the follow-up to 2013’s The Electric Lady. And just yesterday, she shared two new visuals from the upcoming release: the suit-filled “Django Jane” and the more glam rock–reminiscent “Make Me Feel.”
Monáe rocks four different colored suits in the “Django Jane” video—one maroon, another a deep green, a three-piece gray plaid set, and the last one in a hot pink shade—and she finishes off each of the sharp looks with some trendy white heeled patent leather boots and a gold-threaded kufi-style piece that sits atop her head.
Though Monáe’s clearly the master of menswear, she switches things up dramatically in the visual for “Make Me Feel,” which distinctly conjures Prince. Surrounded by clubgoers dressed up in extravagant ’80s-inspired outfits, Monáe dons everything from a patchwork suit with shoulder pads to sheer red rose–adorned jeans. And if that’s not enough, she also wears a bright yellow one-piece and a head-to-toe look composed of sparkling metallic threads.
