Who is Janel Parrish from Netflix's hit movie 'To All The Boys I've Loved Before'? The movie's success has brought a lot of attention to these young stars and fans are dying to know more about the actors in real life.
Janel Parrish plays Margo, Lara Jean's (played by Lana Condor) older sister who is dating one of her crushes until she goes away to college and they break up. Parrish really related to the family dynamic in the movie.
“Margo reminded me of my big sister Melissa — I was definitely the Lara Jean,” she adds. “She was my Margo and she was my best friend in the world and I begged her not to leave me when she went to college […] I found a lot of myself in Lara Jean, and my relationship with my sister and I thought it was sweet to see sisters represented in such a true way. It was fun for me to draw from my real life with this film.”
Here's more about what we know about Janel Parrish:
1. You may recognize her from a hit show.
If you thought Parrish looked familiar, you're right. Parrish played everyone's favorite evil fashionista Mona on Pretty Little Liars. “[Mona’s] been a part of me, first of all, for seven years, but she’s hands-down been the most interesting character I’ve ever had a chance to play,” Parrish said. “She’s never really just on anybody’s side, she’s kind of on her own. I think she’s established herself as one of the good guys but she’s definitely got darkness, and issues and secrets, and that will stay the same [in The Perfectionists] because she’s Mona.”
2. She's getting her own spinoff series.
Mona and Allison are not quite finished yet. Parrish announced on Twitter that the rumors of a spinoff series were true.
3. She started out on stage before being in front of the camera.
Before filming for television, Parrish had dreams of the spotlight on stage. "I was 6 years old [when I] watched Phantom Of The Opera for the first time and I turned to my dad and said, 'I want to do that. I want to be onstage. I feel like a lot of people don’t know that about me because when I do musical theatre, they’re like, ‘Oh, is this your first musical?' or 'How do you like doing musical theater?’ or ‘I didn’t know that you sang!’ And I’m like, 'I’m the biggest musical theatre nerd you’ll ever meet."
4. In fact, she just played the role of a lifetime on stage.
Parrish just finished a long run as Sandy in the stage production of Grease. "Growing up, because I didn’t look like Olivia Newton-John, which is the Sandy you expect, I always wanted to be Sandy," she told Bustle. "Always wanted to be Sandy, but never, ever thought I'd get the opportunity, never thought I'd be seen as Sandy. What I identified with in Sandy, and what I wanted to bring to the stage was the fact that she is very much figuring out what kind of woman she wants to be, but she sort of understands that she is a strong woman and [at] the very end, she owns up to it. And she’s like actually, you know what, I am a strong woman, I am a Pink Lady at heart."
5. She's engaged.
Parrish announced her engagement to her boyfriend of almost two years on Instagram "Went to the park for a stroll with Klee and came back with a fiancé. I get to marry my best friend and I'm over the moon. I love you @c_long."
6. She loves to gush about her fiancé.
“He just is my person. My soul knows him, I feel like. He’s my best friend in the entire world. And no matter what, if I’m having the worst day ever, I feel like I have somebody who understands me. And even if he doesn’t quite understand me at that moment, he tries to,” Parrish told Us Weekly , “And that feels so nice.”
7. She's proud to be part of To All The Boys I've Loved Before.
"What I also love about this film and the book is that it’s not — they don’t necessarily need to be Asian-American to tell the story. They just happen to be an Asian-American family. She happens to be an Asian-American girl, but it’s not about that," she says. "I think that’s wonderful ... and I see more of that in the industry as we go on."
