Jane Fonda opened up about her sex life on The Ellen Degeneres Show.
The 82-year-old actress and activist actually said she’s not having any, candidly stating “I don’t have time. I’m old and I’ve had so much of it.”
She also has regrets over passing up the opportunity to sleep with Marvin Gaye.
Even at 82 (almost 83!), Jane Fonda stays too busy to get busy—if you know what I mean. In an Oct. 9 interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Grace and Frankie star candidly spoke about the lack of sex she’s having right now.
Guest host Tiffany Haddish brought up the topic. “I need to know because you look so good, are you still having sex? Are you having, like, crazy sex?” she asked. Fonda offered a big thumbs down. “No, no, zero,” she said, shaking her head. “I don’t have time. I’m old and I’ve had so much of it. I don’t need it right now because I’m too busy!”
She went on to joke that her “favorite” ex-husband Ted Turner used to say that “if you wait too long it grows over,” adding, “I think he’s right. I couldn’t have sex again even if I wanted to.” She was also once married to Roger Vadim and Tom Hayden.
While talking with Haddish, the actress confirmed her regrets over passing up the opportunity to sleep with Marvin Gaye—an instance she recently spoke of in an interview with The New York Times.
At the time, she was wife to Hayden, who was running for the U.S Senate. “I met with a lot of musicians asking if they would do concerts to support his campaign,” she told Haddish. “And Marvin asked to meet with me.” (They met at a bar.)
“We had a long talk and it was clear it could’ve happened if I wanted,” she said. “But you know, I was married.” According to the Times, he didn’t try a “Sexual Healing” pick-up line, a nod to his famous song, but Fonda confirmed that back then, she definitely “needed some.”
While she and Haddish spoke virtually, photos of Gaye popped up on the screen. “Oh god, there he is,” Fonda gawked. “So beautiful.” In the Times interview, she revealed he kept her photo on his refrigerator. “I didn’t find that out until later, after he was dead,” she explained, referring to his 1984 death.
The activist may’ve sworn off sex for good, but if she could meet with Gaye today, it looks like there’s a very good chance she’d make an exception.
