A rooftop overlooking the Manhattan skyline, flowing drinks, endless sliders and fries and, oh, a performance by Third Eye Blind — Abercrombie & Fitch sure knows how to throw a perfect summer party. Of course, no fashion party is complete without a slew of stylish celeb guests, right? Lucky for us, actress, blogger, and all-around “it” girl Jamie Chung was there, and we got to speak with her about her first memories of Abercrombie & Fitch and the secrets behind her on-point Instagram.

Yahoo Style: So, we all shopped at Abercrombie during our high school days — what were the most memorable items you bought?

Jamie Chung: I have so many! They had such classic items, like they had the perfect jean jackets, and this corduroy jacket with faux shearling on it. They had these white pants that were kind of sporty, and on the bum it said “Beach Bum,” and I had this awesome bag for the beach that had a bird like Toucan Sam on it and it said “Jamaican Me Crazy.” I loved those.

We love your blog, “What the Chung” and your IG is on fire! Your selfie and #OOTD game is strong — what are your secrets for the perfect picture?

It’s all about light, preferably natural lighting. But it needs to be low, not high noon, because that’s the worst time to take a selfie — it’s too bright and it’ll create harsh shadows. Keep it natural, don’t try too hard. If it’s over the fifth attempt at a pic, then it’s too many and at that point you’re just spending too much time on your phone. Just let it go. It’s always interesting to do an environmental shot to see where you are at the moment. And don’t manipulate the photo too much, as I think it sends the wrong message.

What are your tips for dressing well for your body type?

I feel like I have a boyish body, so not have too many curves. So I tend to favor whatever would accentuate my curves. I also stay away from empire-waist pieces as they just look too young. I always cinch the waist just to give me some sort of shape as well.

We love that you take fashion risks, like doing denim on denim or jumpsuits. What would you say is the riskiest outfit you’ve ever donned?

Well, the great thing about being a B-cup is that you can get away with wearing really low-cut pieces! Fashion tape is my best friend, but whenever I wear something a little plunging, then I feel like it’s pretty risqué. Going for a bold pattern too — I wore this one printed off-shoulder dress with ruffles, and it was just too much. So I’ve made a lot of mistakes. But you learn from them!

What are your favorite fashion rules to break?

The No. 1 fashion rule is wear whatever makes you feel good. Whenever I say I’m not going to do something, I end up doing it, like overalls. Fashion is cyclical, so why not give it a chance — it’s supposed to be fun! If you make a mistake, then you make a mistake. No big deal.
