  • Jamie Chung just got very real about suffering from postpartum depression.

  • The 38-year-old actress recently opened up about her struggles being a first-time mom to twin boys. "I was so resentful. And I had anxiety and I was angry," she said.

  • She also shared that she went to therapy before having her children to help "prep" herself for the changes to come.

Jamie Chung is opening up about her experience with postpartum depression. The 38-year-old actress, who welcomed twin boys in October, spoke to People about how she felt “quite guilty” having certain emotions after her sons were born. But, she said, “knowing that it's normal and it's just because you're overwhelmed and you're full of anxiety” was helpful.

One way the Dexter: New Blood star said she knew what she was going through was normal was because she underwent therapy before having her babies. “Therapy really helped me prep mentally for this lifestyle change and to not be afraid to talk about certain issues because it's not the first thing you want to say when you have kids," she said. "You don't want to start with something negative or challenging, but I do think that these postpartum depression issues are so real."

Jamie also spoke to Us Weekly about her experience with postpartum depression. “It’s real and it’s there,” she said. “It rocks your world having kids. This transition sometimes leads to anxiety, depression, angst, resentment, the whole spectrum of feelings… You work on that by making sure that you give yourself time, you are kind to yourself and gentle to your partner as well.”

Jamie said it’s “extremely challenging” to have twins, adding, “I wish I was told how difficult having multiples is.” The 38-year-old said that things are also always changing. “As soon as you figure out a groove, they grow and change,” she shared. “It’s like a whole new set of challenges.”

Jamie suggested that she’s still experiencing postpartum depression, telling Us that her feelings are “temporary” and adding, “hopefully [it] will pass if [I] do the work.”

Jamie and her husband Bryan Greenberg announced the birth of their babies in October after welcoming them via surrogate. “We got double the trouble now @jamiejchung 👶🏻👶🏻,” Greenberg captioned an Instagram video of himself snuggling with their sons.

Jamie told supermodel Ashley Graham in a December Facebook Live that she had “crazy” mental health issues after the birth of her sons. “I was so resentful, and I had anxiety and I was angry. I was going through it,” she said.

Now, she’s urging other moms to open up about how they’re feeling in the postpartum period. “It’s such a common phase, and it’s a common thing to feel,” she said. “Having a support group is really important, calling in favors from your friends to give you your space.”
