James Charles isn't here for people commenting on who he is or isn't friends with. The YouTuber took to his Instagram Stories on Thursday night and asked his followers to send in assumptions they had about him so he could respond to them. It wasn't long though, until the discussion turned to the nature of his friendships with TikTokers like the D'Amelios and Chase Hudson and James had quite a lot to say.

It all started when one fan wrote in saying, "you secretly hate a lot of [TikTokers] and you just hang out with them for clout."

Recently, James has been seen hanging out more and more with TikTok stars, namely Dixie and Charli D'Amelio, Chase Hudson, Noah Beck, and Larray. In the past, many people have commented on these relationships, pointing out the five-year age difference between James and Charli. James, though, was quick to defend these friendships.

"I obviously am a very busy person and if I'm going to spend my time with people it's going to be people that I enjoy being around," James said, adding, "I do not need clout. I'm doing just fine on my own thank you very much."

He continued, saying that many people ask him why he hangs out with TikTokers, or "children" as he's heard them called. James explained that while TikTok has a younger demographic than other social media apps, and many people on the app are teens, not all TikTok creators are super young.

"Aside from Charli, who is younger, literally everybody that I'm friends with from the TikTok world is one to two years [younger] than me, if not older," he said, reminding people that he's only 21. "I feel like because I've been here for awhile a lot of people assume I'm way older, but that's not the case."

As a reminder, Dixie and Noah are 19, while Chase is 18. Larray, meanwhile, is 22, making him older than James. In all, though, the age differences don't matter considering they all enjoy their time together and have so many common experiences.

James explained that when he first started getting popular on social media, he was just 16 and it was really hard for him to make friends. "Everyone else my age was either finishing school or was out here in Hollywood going to parties." Because of that, James is happy that he's found people his own age to hang out with, especially those who know what it's like to live in the spotlight.

"I really love the fact that I became friends with a lot of the TikTokers now because we have a lot in common and I finally get to hang out with people that are my age and are going through similar things in their personal life and also their careers," he said.

The beauty guru finished his rant by admitting that he finds it weird that his fans "police" his friendships. In the end, though, James is just grateful for his friends.
