James Charles wore a skirt for the first time, says he felt 'soo cute and powerful'
James Charles casually slayed his first time wearing a skirt.
On Sunday, the 21-year-old makeup influencer took to Instagram to share pictures of himself wearing a leather skirt while leaning against a painted brick wall.
“Sundays are for skirts I’ve never worn a skirt before but low key felt soo cute and powerful... what do y’all think?” he captioned the post.
Charles’s fans took to the comments to share how much they loved the look. YouTuber Benji Krol commented, “wait how have you not worn a skirt before omg this is such a serve you need to wear them more often.” Charles agreed writing, “I think so too.”
“James in a skirt is magical,” one person said.
“It looks so good on you OMG,” another fan wrote.
“Girllll... I love it, keep doing you and don’t listen to the people that don’t like it or whatever. Love you James!”
Charles frequently breaks gender norms with his fashion choices.
"Clothing I feel like for me is subjective — clothing has no gender obviously and for me it’s just all about feeling confident and feeling body confident, too," the beauty influencer told Seventeen in July 2019 of his sense of style.
"I’m not the most confident in my body. I don’t know why, my identity is something that I’ve always struggled with. Like obviously I’m a boy in makeup — but I’ve always enjoyed very feminine things and I’ve tried to educate myself more about gender identity and societal stereotypes and stuff like that," he said. "So for me it’s always just about pushing new boundaries and making myself uncomfortable in ways where I can kind of like force myself to be more confident and to love who I am."
Charles’ photos come after Harry Styles drew both praise and criticism for wearing a dress on the cover of Vogue’s December issue. Conservative activist Candace Owens voiced her disapproval tweeting, “There is no society that can survive without strong men. The East knows this. In the west, the steady feminization of our men at the same time that Marxism is being taught to our children is not a coincidence. It is an outright attack. Bring back manly men.”
Styles seemingly responded to the comment by sharing a picture of himself eating a banana while wearing a light blue suit and wide-sleeved top to Instagram and captioned it, “Bring back manly men.”
