Report: Jaguars not looking to deal Jalen Ramsey despite trade request
Jalen Ramsey’s trade request is well-known at this point, but the Jacksonville Jaguars are not interested in trading their star cornerback.
According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jaguars would have already dealt Ramsey if they had interest in doing so, but their lack of traction on a deal indicates where they stand.
This saga is similar to when another young defensive back requested a trade this month. Then-Miami Dolphins safety Minkah Fitzpatrick asked out on Sept. 12, and he was dealt to the Pittsburgh Steelers four days later for a 2020 first-round pick.
Ramsey let it be known in an interview with NFL Network’s Nate Burleson that his request stemmed from an issue he had with the team’s front office. Whether those divides can be quickly healed should be answered shortly.
Will Ramsey take any action to push the Jaguars?
The Jaguars had signaled that they wanted to play Ramsey in their Thursday night game and move forward from there, but that has come and gone without any announcements either way.
Ramsey was happy to show that he is one of the league’s best corners — finishing second on the team with nine tackles — but now he could try to force a decision.

The Jaguars return to practice on Monday, and he would be within his rights to sit it out until he has a new team or a new contract. The Dolphins never got to that point with Fitzpatrick and were able to land a high 2020 first-round pick, but the Jaguars could lose leverage if Ramsey makes a stink about the situation.
Earlier reports indicated that the Jaguars wanted two first-rounders of value for the 24-year-old, and they should have no lack of suitors. ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported that all 31 other teams have already contacted the Jaguars.
Ramsey could still land a record contract
Although Ramsey may never fully get over the “disrespectful things” said to him, a record-breaking contract could go a long way towards appeasing him.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Friday that Jaguars owner Shad Khan loves Ramsey and would be willing to “make him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL as soon as he possibly can.”
Ramsey, who is making $3.6 million this season and $13.7 million in his final season under contract, would be worth it as perhaps the top young corner in the game, just entering his prime. Josh Norman earned the most guarantees at $50 million, while Xavien Howard has the highest average salary at $15.05 million, and Ramsey could easily eclipse both numbers — whether with the Jaguars or a new team.
