Jaden Smith gives out his old dreadlocks on 'The Late Late Show'

Jaden Smith made his first appearance on the Late Late Show With James Corden on Monday night. The host quickly reminded young Jaden of their first meeting, at the 2017 Met Gala in New York. Jaden made headlines at the event for showing up with a bouquet of his old dreadlocks as an accessory — what a millennial.

Jaden explained why he brought his dreads on the red carpet. He said: “And the reason I like to do that is whenever I have a really big important moment in my life, I kind of like to show people how special it is by bringing something, you know, that really means a lot to me.”

Since it was Jaden’s first appearance on the show, he felt like the special occasion called for another appearance of his dreadlocks. Jaden offered the bouquet to the host but made it very clear they were only for this show and James could not keep them forever. This caveat prompted James to quickly ask, “Can I have one?”

Jaden agreed and even allowed the other guests, Seth Rogen and Jason Segel, to share in the bonding experience. The constant talk of dreadlocks reminded Seth of a simpler time when he had dreads in high school.

He told everyone that when he decided to finally cut off his dreads, his mother decided to keep them. James questioned why Seth had not brought along his own dreads to share. Seth retorted, “ I didn’t know this was happening … if I knew this was a bring-your-old-dreadlock party I would have done it.”
