Jacksonville State basketball arena roof damaged by tornado

The roof of Jacksonville State’s basketball arena was damaged when a tornado hit the campus Monday night.

The roof of Pete Mathews Coliseum sustained significant damage during the storm, Jacksonville State athletic director Greg Seitz said in a statement Tuesday. That damage then caused the court and other parts of the arena to flood.

Here’s a look at the arena from Tuesday.

The school was on spring break when the storms hit Monday night and only minor injures were reported in the city of Jacksonville, Alabama. Other parts of the Jacksonville State campus sustained significant damage, including “numerous academic buildings and dormitories,” according to Seitz’s statement.

The National Weather Service tweeted Tuesday the tornado that hit the city was an EF-3 with winds of approximately 140 m.p.h.
