A.J. Green and Jalen Ramsey ejected after rumble

You’ll occasionally see a good basketball fight or a baseball brawl, and hockey is hockey.

You don’t see too many great fights in the NFL. The game is violent enough between the whistles, and it’s generally not a smart idea to throw punches on someone wearing a helmet. But Cincinnati Bengals receiver A.J. Green and Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey played the feud on Sunday.

At the end of a play in the first half, Green was heated after Ramsey pushed him to the ground at the end of a play. Green went at Ramsey and yelled at him, and we’ve seen two players yell at each other before being separated a billion times on a football field. But Ramsey wouldn’t engage, so Green grabbed him around the neck and dragged him to the ground. Then Green started punching Ramsey — again, not the best thing to punch a guy with a helmet on — dragged Ramsey down again when he got up, and eventually both teams got involved. Green was on the ground and still threw another punch at Ramsey.

Green and Ramsey, two of the NFL’s best players, were ejected. It’s hard to figure out why Ramsey was ejected, because his push wasn’t worth that punishment. Green’s fantasy owners have to be thrilled that he finished the day with one catch for 6 yards.

Green apologized to his teammates, according to reports, and acknowledged that he could get suspended.

“I will accept anything that comes my way,” Green said, according to Lance McAlister of WLW Radio in Cincinnati.

Green also didn’t seem to have any regret.

“I’m not going to back down from anyone. I have a son, I’m not going to teach him to back down,” Green said, via McAlister.

It’s hard to see how Ramsey will get punished further for his role in the fight. But Green can probably expect to hear from the NFL for recreating “WWE Raw.”

The Jags ended up outwrestling the Bengals, 23-7.
