From Town & Country

First daughter Ivanka Trump garnered some serious fashion attention over the weekend on her trip to Rome to attend the wedding of fashion designer Misha Nonoo. And while glamour is what you'd expect at the wedding of fashion designer and an heir to the Hess Oil fortune (Nonoo's good friend Meghan Markle wore a sheer-sleeved black dress that was reportedly designed by Valentino for the event) it wasn't the caped, champagne-colored dress that Ivanka wore for the ceremony that caught the attention of fashion fans (and critics). Instead it was another, glitzier look with a backstory.

In a photo shared on Ivanka's Instagram stories, the White House advisor pulled out a dress from her mother's closet—a glittering, fringed Bob Mackie dress.

The dress by iconic fashion designer Mackie features a high neck and layers of sequined fringe in a white, gold, and black ombre. The dress was first spotted on Donald Trump's first wife, Ivana Trump, at a gala event in 1991.

White the fan reaction to the dress was divided, with some applauding Ivanka for taking a fashion risk and others likening the style to the wardrobe from '80s soap drama Dynasty or a figure skating costume, it's obviously a favorite of Ivanka's; her Roman excursion isn't the first time she's borrowed the piece from her mother's closet. In 2014, she shared a since-deleted Instagram post of herself wearing the dress for a wedding at the Rainbow Room.
