Love Island 2023 has finally come to a close, but ITV are keeping the dating shows coming. A new series spin-off will put a unique twist on the format we know and love, inviting the 'older generation' on dates, in a new show called My Mum, Your Dad.

When it comes to what we can expect from Love Island, you know the drill. It's almost guaranteed that in every episode, someone will be pulled aside "for a chat", the ping of phone will result in someone screaming, "I've got a text!", and generally, just lots of "cracking on."

But for ITV's newest show, things are looking to be shaken up slightly. Intrigued? So are we. Luckily, we've got you covered with the lowdown on this newest romantic reality show...

When will My Mum, Your Dad be released?

During the live Love Island 2023 final, ITV revealed the Davina McCall fronted dating show will land on the channel later this year in Autumn. They also revealed a first-look trailer at the show, with a voiceover explaining, "Nominated by their grown up kids, single parents are looking for that second chance at love."

What is the show called?

Initially tipped as The Romance Retreat in a post from March 2023, ITV later took to social media to reveal the TV show had actually been renamed. So, what is it now? My Mum, Your Dad.

In a tweet posted on 7th June, they wrote, "The secret is finally out! A brand-new series, following a group of single parents looking for a second chance at love. They've been nominated by their grown-up kids, but what they don't know is that their kids are watching their every move and playing matchmaker. My Mum, Your Dad, this autumn on ITV1 and @ITVX."

Who will host My Mum, Your Dad?

Davina McCall, former Big Brother presenter and television icon, of course! Taking to Instagram to reveal she would be fronting the new show, she wrote on 17th March 2023, "I manifested and I made it happen. I willed there to be an amazing new dating programme for grown-ups, people who have lived a life, who have been through experiences, bad, moving, they've had tough lives They've got luggage but they deserve love and it's happening. It's coming to ITV soon."

She previously spoke out about wanting to be involved in such a project that includes older contestants. On an episode of the Diary of a CEO podcast, McCall said: "I could fill a villa in Love Island with middle-aged people with the best backstories you have ever heard in your life. They've lived a life – they're widows, they're people who have been through horrific divorces. They are people who have split up with somebody and decided they want to try going out with somebody the same sex as them."

And she really did manifest it, too, adding, "I was like, ''I need to present it please''. They said, 'We're looking at something else that's quite similar, we might consider you for that''."

What is My Mum, Your Dad?

My Mum, Your Dad is an upcoming dating show, in which the contestants spend time in a luxury retreat in order to find love. Sounds familiar so far, right? But that's where the Love Island similarities end, because the new show is all about finding love for single parents.

To get into this version of the villa, single parents (with children over the age of 18) will be put into a house in a countryside location in the UK, with the hope of finding love.

It's unconfirmed as to whether the contestants will be competing for a cash prize in the same way the current Love Islanders are, or whether this show will include the same challenges, but we know we already can't wait to find out.

Is there a cast for My Mum, Your Dad?

The trailer for My Mum, Your Dad reveals a look at some of the participants, after a casting call was put live on the ITV website. According to the official description, they were looking for "vibrant single parents from across the UK" to apply. It said in full, "ITV1 are looking for vibrant single parents from across the UK who are in search of love, for a brand new dating show! This is the ONLY dating show where single parents can search for love, by spending time in a luxury retreat, where all the parents have been nominated by their grown up children."

Should we be excited?

Viewers have been asking for a more-inclusive Love Island for a while. From requests for an LGBTQ+ version of the show, to a cast that includes more variation on body types, it's no secret that audiences are keen to see something a bit different.

At the very least, a show that revolves around a different type of contestant is a step in the right direction.

Though we'll have to wait for any updates on My Mum, Your Dad, there's no doubt that this new series has the same amount of potential as it's younger counterpart. After all, there's no age limit on love.
