The Venice Film Festival attracts a globetrotting, glamorous crowd, with Hollywood types mingling alongside European glitterati. And yesterday, one particularly beautiful man with gazelle-like legs and a smile worthy of a Crest commercial, stood out above and beyond the rest.
His name is something to remember: Ghali, the 25-year-old Italian-Tunisian rapper. His style is pretty unforgettable, too. Last night at the opening ceremony for the film festival, Ghali looked especially dapper in a Dior Men’s double-breasted black suit from the house’s Fall 2019 collection. His approach to black tie was for sure unconventional. In lieu of a bowtie, he sported a Alyx for Dior chain, for example. There was also a train attached at his collar that swooped under his jacket and hung down to his ankles. “In 2019, it’s not necessary to wear a smoking suit to be formal,” says stylist Ramona Tabita, who has been working with the rapper for three years.
As red carpet risk-takers go, it turns out Ghali is relatively seasoned. He made a cameo at the Gucci Cruise 2020 presentation back in March in Rome arm in arm and (lip on lip!) with his girlfriend Italian supermodel, Mariacarla Boscono. Still, even rolling solo, Ghali’s funky style is something to watch. Earlier this summer, while on tour in Frankfurt, Germany, he performed in full Maison Margiela Fall 2019 runway look which consisted of an elongated blue button down with wide leg white pants and, of course, the House’s most infamous split-toe boot, the Tabi. Around his neck was a silver vintage choker from Tunisia. Even if he is wears a brand head to toe, such as Gucci, he’ll infuse a nice dose of his own personality—think, an extra-long, statement-making necklace. With over a week of Venice Film festivities to come, there’s no telling what magical fashion tricks he’ll pull out of his hat next.
