Not too long ago, it was announced that Greta Gerwig would be directing Barbie, a live-action film about the plastic doll/feminist icon.
Not long after that, it was announced that Margot Robbie would be playing the titular character and Ryan Gosling would be playing her boyfriend, Ken.
A+ casting, IMO.
Pixar / Walt Disney
Other cast mates include, but are not limited to: America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Michael Cera, and Rhea Perlman.
While there isn't much being said about the plot of this film — which is slated to come out in summer 2023 — we do have some fun casting announcements!!!
First, there's Saoirse Ronan, who's rumored to play an undisclosed role.
Then there's Dua Lipa, who's also rumored to play an undisclosed role.
However, my excitement comes with the next batch of casting announcements! According to the New York Times' Kyle Buchanan, who's spilling the "hot gossip" from Cannes Film Festival, its seems like Greta is plotting her own Multiverse of Mattel-ness by casting several other A-listers to play alternative Barbies and Kens!
I am hearing incredible BARBIE goss at Cannes
