The new trend among this season’s fashion/beauty team-ups? Useful make-up. Really! - L’Oréal Paris x Isabel Marant make-up collection

There are some fashion-brand beauty collaborations that are very cool but that I would never wear. An avant-garde gold lipstick is not my cup of tea, I’m afraid. But when it was announced earlier this year that Isabel Marant is launching a range with L’Oréal Paris, I knew it would be amazing.

Who better to spark a new trend for understated and – whisper it – useful beauty collaborations than the queen of French chic herself?  ‘I approached this make-up collection in the same way I design my ready-to-wear collections: to be wearable any time, anywhere,’ Marant tells me.

‘Parisian style is not about social-media perfection, it is a natural elegance: super-natural for the day with statement updates for the night – a dark eye or a bright red lip. But never both at the same time.’ For those of us whose mantra is ‘less is more’, this is the chic, fuss-free range we’ve been waiting for.

The seven lipsticks consist of flattering pinky nudes, rose tones and, of course, a true red. Also in the line-up is a brilliant pink lip and cheek gloss that imparts a believable, natural flush, and a clear gel for brows and lashes that everyone needs in their make-up bag.

There’s even a simple palette of two eyeshadow powders for an easy-peasy smudgy smoky eye. The range is basically Parisian cool packaged up in an expertly edited, very wearable make-up collection. It launches this Wednesday exclusively on feelunique.com, with prices from £8.99.

Happily, Marant seems to be capturing a new mood for practical, less-is-more ‘fashion’ make-up – here are some other brands following her lead.
