"Haute is all about a certain freedom and experimentation, but also a new kind of individuality," says Vera Wang of her new demi-couture arm, Vera Wang Haute. The designer—who launched a mainline of her classic, eponymous Vera Wang Bride with global bridal retailer Pronovias earlier this year—is rejiggering things in-house, ushering in an even more innovative approach.

"With Haute, I am both proud and humbled by the incredible artists that continue to interpret my designs and permit me the freedom to explore and experiment, without boundaries," the designer explains in her collection's show notes. An ode to her very own 'les petites mains'—the hands, talents, and artisans who work with her in her New York studio—as well as her brides, this new luxe range is Wang's space to explore "my own creative inclinations while expanding upon the vocabulary of bridal."

While Vera Wang Bride will use the label's DNA to inform its annual range of accessibly-priced bridal and eveningwear, Haute will lead the charge of what makes up that core brand ethos. "Haute represents the highest level of draping, cutting, and sewing, allowing me the necessary tools to create for some of the world’s most celebrated women," the designer says in her season's introduction.

As such, the first bridal collection for the new label explores the techniques that originally earned Wang her position as the doyenne of all things wedding. Unsurprising if you're familiar with her recent work for Jennifer Gates, Gwen Stefani, Ariana Grande, and Issa Rae—or if you've seen her past looks for Mariah Carey, Victoria Beckham, and more—this collection is a study of volumes, proportion, and technique.

This season, it's also all about the personalization. "Each bride embodies a different character and spirit...from modern medieval to edgy T-shirt dressing, these are clothes that express an intentional freedom, and individuality," Wang says.

In sifting through the ten-look collection, one could interpret each dress as a different bride—or as a different facet of a complex, layered modern woman. After all, in each of us lies a romantic, a minimalist, a bohemian, a glamour girl, an edgy soul, and more. Vera Wang Haute's inaugural collection challenges brides to discover which of those stylish selves they'll embody as they walk down the aisle, which they'll transform into once the reception begins, and which makes them feel like it's time to party.
