A Change.org petition to “Make Instagram Instagram Again” got an endorsement from Kylie Jenner. Now the head of Instagram has responded.

When Jenner told Instagram to “stop trying to be TikTok,” it seemed to warrant a response from the app’s head Adam Mosseri. It’s unsurprising. After all, when Jenner declared Snapchat was over in 2018, its stock plummetted and it lost $1.3 billion along with its social currency as the trendiest app.

One of the Make Instagram Instagram Again petition’s major complaints with Instagram is that, like Meta always does, it pivoted to video and away from photos. Another demand is the return of chronological timelines, which have been determined by algorithms for the past few years.
According to Later, a study it conducted on 81 million Instagram posts found that the engagement rate of feed posts, excluding video content like Reels and IGTV, has decreased by 44% since 2019.

Jenner posted, “Make Instagram Instagram Again. (Stop trying to be TikTok I just want to see cute photos of my friends.) Sincerely, everyone.” The Instagram Story was captured by reporter Frank Pallotta on Twitter.

Mosseri responded to the criticisms but also implied that Instagram would continue to invest in video.
“The second thing I’m hearing a lot of concerns about is photos, and how we’re shifting to video. Now, I want to be clear that we’re going to continue to support photos,” Mosseri said. “That said, I do believe more and more of Instagram is going to become video over time.”
