Inside Doug Jones’ Amazing Year, From ‘Star Trek’ to ‘Twin Peaks’ to Senate

Doug Jones is a true original. From scoring major film and television roles to scoring an upset win in Alabama’s Senate election, he’s had a very big 2017. Let’s have a look.

Before the year even began, Doug Jones was named to the cast of the new “Star Trek: Discovery.” As TheWrap’s Rosemary Rossi recently reported, Jones is sometimes called the “man of a thousand faces” because he appears in a wide range of projects, including “Pan’s Labyrinth,” under pounds of makeup.

In May 2017, Jones, an attorney best known for prosecuting two Klansmen, declared himself a candidate for Senate in Alabama. The Democrat was a serious underdog in the deep-red state.

That same month, Doug “Dougie” Jones popped up on Showtime’s “Twin Peaks” revival.

What’s that you say? These are three separate people, and one of them is fictional? Haha, no — please pay attention. As we carefully explained, TheWrap’s Rosemary Rossi already reported that Doug Jones is the “man of a thousand faces.”

See? Here is one of those faces, from “Pan’s Labyrinth.” Let’s move on, okay?

Oh no! Dougie Jones kind of died on “Twin Peaks,” only to be kind of reborn. Like we said: Doug Jones had a very eventful year.

In September, “Star Trek: Discovery” premiered to good reviews. Congratulations, Doug!

What? Yes, we’re sure it’s all the same guy.

That same month, Roy Moore won the Republican primary. This turned out to be a lucky break for Doug Jones, became Roy Moore turned out to be a not great candidate. There was some kind of scandal or something. Moving on.

More good news for Doug Jones! “The Shape of Water,” the new Guillermo del Toro film in which Jones plays a majestic sea creature, looks like a strong awards contender.

It only gets better: On Tuesday, Jones scored a serious upset win over Moore in the Alabama senate race. Who knew Alabamans loved “Twin Peaks” so much?

Well, there you have it. The amazing feats of Doug Jones, the only person in the entire world named Doug Jones, aka Sen.-elect Doug “Dougie” Jones, “man of a thousand faces.” Here’s hoping you get some time off for the holidays, Doug!
