Pacers G Malcolm Brogdon week-to-week with left thigh tear

Indiana Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon will be evaluated again in a week after suffering a torn rectus femoris in his left leg, the team announced on Saturday.

The injury, however, will not require surgery. The Pacers still expect that he can return to the floor before the end of the regular season.

“He’s going to have to sit out a period of time,” Pacers coach Nate McMillan said Saturday, via the Indianapolis Star. “It’s going to have to heal [on it’s own]. It’s a matter of how much pain he can tolerate.”

Brogdon suffered the muscle tear in the second quarter of their 119-110 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday and did not return. He finished the night with four points and two assists in 11 minutes, and missed their 108-102 win against the Chicago Bulls on Friday, too.

At best, Brogdon will miss Indiana’s game against the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday and the Boston Celtics on Tuesday before being re-evaluated. Any delay in his recovery, however, could put the rest of his season in jeopardy, as the Pacers have just 19 games left on their schedule.

The 27-year-old has averaged career-highs 16.3 points, 7.1 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game this season, his fourth in the league.

“He’s disappointed,” McMillan said, via the Star. “We’re going down the stretch of the season and an injury takes you out a week or so that’s going to be a setback with losing your timing, your rhythm, the chemistry with your teammates.”

After going down in their loss to the Bucks on Wednesday, Malcolm Brogdon is now listed as week-to-week with a left leg injury.
