There are some kitchen items you may find yourself always find myself buying often (who can ever have enough mugs?!), but there are also some you probably buy once and will use until they are old and rusty and barely work. These are things like meat thermometers, garlic mincers, and veggie peelers. But Ina Garten has recently dropped the knowledge that we should all be replacing that last one a lot more often...as in, like, once a year.

In a recent interview with Food & Wine, Garten said that these peelers, as well as zesters, should both be replaced about as often as you get a new calendar. You may not remember when exactly you bought your current peelers, but you do know that you simply gave up peeling a butternut squash the other day because it was too hard...oops.

"Vegetable peelers get rusty, they get dull, and they're very cheap, so you can just throw them out and buy new ones," Garten told the magazine. "Every once in a while I do that."

By now you should know that when Ina speaks, we all listen. Luckily, the peelers Garten recommends are just $13 for a three-pack, so you can always have a fresh one lying around. She loves them so much that they made her coveted official Barefoot Contessa Equipment List! These peelers can be used right- or left-handed, and they cut both ways. They even feature a potato eye remover on the side. Who knew Garten would have us psyched about peeling veggies? What can't this woman do???
