Earlier this week, Twitter was having fun joking about a bad headline that said Leonardo DiCaprio looked "unrecognizable" in the first images from Martin Scorsese's new movie. Leo looked exactly like Leo in these photos. That's the joke. That's the tweet.

But while we were talking about that, Seth Rogen had already posted a photo of himself in which he is actually unrecognizable. The actor posted a selfie with his face clean shaven (well, mostly) for his upcoming appearance in the Hulu mini-series, Pam & Tommy.

Now, I know Seth Rogen's face. I've even seen it clean shaven before, when he was a fresh-faced teenager in Freaks & Geeks. I've seen him with a goatee in Superbad and The 40-Year-Old Virgin. He was even clean shaven in Pineapple Express.

So, why, I ask, does he look legitimately so unrecognizable in this photo without his beard?

Don't get me wrong. The guy looks great. I love the late '90s fit. He has a fine jawline that normally hides under that scruff. But I feel like we've entered a Berenstein Bears vs. Berenstain Bears alternate reality situation. The timeline split the moment Seth Rogen shaved his beard, sending our current reality hurtling off in a different direction. This is an existential crisis. This is not the Seth Rogen I know and love.

I'm haunted by this image. Seth Rogen. Bearded Seth Rogen. Please come back and set our reality back on its rightful course. We need you and your beard.
