Finding a pair of jeans that fit perfectly is hard enough, but when you’re 5-foot-2, it’s even harder. High-waisted jeans have been the reigning silhouette for the last few years, and for good reason—they do an amazing job at elongating your legs, which is on the wishlist of anyone with a shorter frame. Unfortunately, when you’re petite, high-rise denim can sometimes swallow your entire torso, creating awkward proportions. The other challenge is almost always with length. The fit at the waist and bum might be perfect, but you end up with pools of fabric around your feet. Heading to a tailor is always an option, but I refuse to spend more money on already pricey jeans (and truthfully, it’s a pain to do).

Everything changed on the denim-front for me after spotting Reformation’s Cynthia High Rise Straight Cropped Jeans on a fellow petite, interior designer Shea McGee of Studio McGee. Not to mention supermodels Kendall Jenner, Elsa Hosk and Ashley Graham have all been spotted in the brand’s denim, so I knew I had to check the pants out.

I opted for the Colorado wash, a true blue denim hue that I knew would pair perfectly with everything from a crisp white button-down to a lightweight tank, but this style is also available in a darker shade called Lanier. I ordered two sizes as the description mentions the style runs half a size small; they’re made with a non-stretch denim fabric, so I knew there wouldn’t be any give. My waist to hip ratio isn’t too big (I have an athletic build) and I found sizing up to be more comfortable, plus, it created more of a relaxed, loose look.

Thankfully, this pair of cropped denim is the ideal high-rise, hitting me just above the belly button. The inseam is 27-inches and the hem hits the floor when I’m barefoot, making them perfect to wear with a pair of classic white sneakers or editor-approved kitten heels. The Cynthia High Rise Straight Cropped Jeans are available in sizes ranging from 23 to 34, and have a button fly, belt loops, and pockets in the front and back.

I find myself throwing on this pair of high-waisted denim all of the time since they’re super comfortable and easy to dress up or down—they pair well with almost everything in my closet. I also tend to get compliments when I wear them, which doesn’t hurt, either. The finished hem also gives them a polished look that makes me feel put-together. I also love accessorizing them with a little black belt for a more elevated outfit. Retailing for $168, the sophisticated cut and color make them a wardrobe staple you’ll keep returning to all-year long.
