Back in the summer of 2021, the ninth Fast & Furious movie, appropriately titled F9, became the first film to “save the movies.” The pandemic closed movie theaters for over a year, and F9—a film about fast cars and family—brought in three quarters of a billion dollars at the box office. It’s hard to make nine movies with the same cast, of course, and that’s likely why the upcoming 10th installment may very well mark the Fast family’s last ride, as they say.

Starring Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Charlize Theron, John Cena, Brie Larson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Jordana Brewster, Helen Mirren, and Scott Eastwood, Fast X will also introduce Jason Momoa as the next villain. The Aquaman actor told Variety that the character is "very sadistic and androgynous and he's a bit of a peacock.” Momoa also teased that “he’s definitely got some daddy issues,” which may point to whatever inventive reason they’ve worked out to make him related to Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto. The film's first trailer, however, tells us that he's somehow tied to the vault heist from Fast Five. But if I try to remember what happened in the movie and why they even stole that vault, my brain might combust! West Side Story’s Rita Moreno will also make a cameo as Dom’s grandmother.

Fast X will be the fifth-most-expensive film ever made, coming in with a $350 million production cost. It's a little bit like Avengers: Endgame for the Toretto family. There's even a scene where Dom backs a car out of an airplane and then crashes two helicopters into each other. Hell yeah. Fast X races into theaters on May 19, 2023.
