IKEA's Classic Blue Bags Are About to Look Very Different

The iconic big blue-and-yellow IKEA bag is getting a makeover that rivals even the most impressive of before-and-afters.

The Swedish giant’s 99-cent FRAKTA bag, perfect for toting a multitude of inexpensive home goods while you shop (and your laundry for years after), is getting a new look, thanks to a collaboration with the French retailer, Colette and their Creative Director, Sarah Andelman.

The polypropylene recyclable carry-all currently boasts its hardworking blue base with yellow handles, but Colette’s take gives the tote a fresh white makeover featuring with the European brand’s signature blue polka dots.

Although the collection won’t be available in US stores until 2018, visitors lucky enough to have access to the Parisian spot can pick up the refreshed shopper (and even get one for free with the purchase of any IKEA’s Art Event collection pieces, also available at Colette) from now until May 6th. While you’re there, take note of the collaboration’s other events, including an exhibit of limited-edition posters, live performances, and a reinvention of the shop’s waterbar, which is exactly what it sounds like.

Regardless of whether you’re excited for the reimagined design or would prefer to keep things classic, there’s no arguing that this large storage savior is an essential part of the IKEA experience. Because if you go to IKEA and don’t leave with a bag full of tea lights, did you really go at all?
