Idyllic Portuguese Island Is Home To Some Amazing Mountain Bike Riding

As winter sets in throughout much of Europe, many riders turn their eyes to parts of the continent with warmer weather.

One such destination is Madeira. The Portuguese island is known for tropical temperatures and some phenomenal riding. Watch local Valentin Anouilh shred around the island below.

In this video, Anouilh carved through some turns and went huge off some jumps. As most of us waste away inside in the nationwide cold snap, riding in Madeira looks straight out of heaven.

Madeira has long had a strong mountain bike scene. In addition to normal tourism, there's a great deal of mountain bikers who visit yearly. The island stamped its place on the map for mountain biking in 2015 when Josh Bryceland appeared there in an edit on the recently released Santa Cruz Bronson.

Since then Madeira has been featured in mainstream films including the iconic scene in Death Grip.

Perhaps the most famous event on the island is the Trans Madeira, a multi-day enduro down some idyllic tracks on the mountain.

Perhaps the most famous line on Madeira is the enormous cliffside that Brendan Fairclough made famous. Read about the exposed line below.
