Idaho's Largest Ski Resort Rejoices At Season's First Signs Of Winter

The Stark Family from HBO's Game of Thrones have a saying that is meant to warn others about the dangers of the impending cold. Skiers have hijacked it as a sign of better times to come..."Winter is coming".

Northern Idaho saw its first taste of winter in the morning hours of September 20th, 2023. The rising sun revealed the results of the last night's storm- the first snowfall of the season.

Schweitzer, Idaho's largest ski resort by acreage, is rejoicing on social media with pictures of the season's first flakes. Take a look below (click the right arrow to progress through the slides):

First snow of the season and a double rainbow in the same day?! What's going on up there in Northern Idaho?! Is there magic in the air? Sure seems like it.

Schweitzer was in the news earlier this summer after it was announced that Alterra Mountain Company, the purveyors of the popular Ikon Pass, had purchased the resort.

Winter '23-'24 is poised to be pivotal season in Schweitzer's long history as Alterra steps in to operate the flagship property. Schweitzer has not announced an intended opening date for the coming season.

Can I have a quick aside? Do you mind?

Is anybody else getting a little fed up with these first snow pics? Don't get me wrong, it's exciting to see flakes falling across the continent, but the grass is still pretty darn green out my window. It feels like the ultimate tease that I can't stop giving into.

Oh well. I'll just keep chugging along through Fall by immersing myself in the cycles of social media that I'm used to this time of year...

First snows posts will turn into first days on skis posts. First days on skis posts will turn into resort opening day posts. First resorts opening posts will turn into first powder days posts... (you get where I'm going with this...). Just remember...

WINTER IS COMING.
