Idaho Fish and Game Places Live Traps to Remove Mountain Lions Following Attacks

There have several non-fatal attacks on dogs.

The Idaho Fish and Game announced earlier this week they are taking action and precautions following increased concern about mountain lions, especially in the Hailey, Idaho area. Since October 2022, Idaho Fish and Game have received 85 calls about mountain lions. Most of these calls are just observation calls, but there have been other concerns with these wild animals.

There have been several non-fatal attacks on dogs, according to a report from KTVB7. Wow, that must be so scary for everyone involved. There have been other reports that mountain lions are in neighborhoods and people's yards. Take a look at the full report to see what Idaho Fish and Game is doing to help the situation.

Wow, we would be nervous if there were frequent mountain lions in our neighborhood too. We'd mostly be concerned about walking our dogs, which is probably why Idaho Fish and Game was called in the first place.

"Residents have indicated that they are not comfortable knowing that the chance of an unexpected encounter with a mountain lion is ever-present around their homes," said Idaho Fish and Game. Makes sense to us.

The department placed three live traps next to two homes. The homeowners approved this as the mountain lions were frequenting these locations. They are also using non-lethal hazing - rubber slugs, buckshot, aerial cracker shells and pepper balls from an air rifle - to try and move the animals out of the area. Staff is educating residents and visitors on how to be safe around wildlife. We hope this works and these mountain lions can safely return to their homes and the residents can go back to living without fear.
