ICYMI, Kate Middleton wears a secret memento of her children
Kate Middleton is a doting mum to her three children, six-year-old Prince George, four-year-old Princess Charlotte, and one-year-old Prince Louis. And while she spends as much time with them as possible, frequently doing the school run for the elder two in the mornings and afternoons, Kate's role as a full-time working royal means she sometimes has to be away from them.
But, as we saw this week, the Duchess of Cambridge has a special way of keeping her children close to her, even when she's working away. On Wednesday (22 January), Kate visited a Children's Centre in Ely, Wales and was photographed looking lovely in a black roll neck jumper, leopard print midi skirt, and camel coat.
Look a bit closer, though, and you'll notice that Kate accessorised her outfit with a very special piece of jewellery. A gold pendant hung from the Duchess' neck, engraved with the initials of her three kids: G, C, L. Which is just the sweetest.
The necklace - which is called the 'Gold Midnight Moon' - is reportedly made by British company jewellery Daniela Draper, who handcraft all their designs. This particular piece of jewellery - which no longer appears to be available online - costs just over £1,000, so it might be one to save up for...
During her trip to the children's centre, the Duchess spoke candidly about how motherhood hasn't always been easy for her - serving as an important reminder that having a child is an adjustment for any woman, regardless of how privileged her circumstances might be.
In conversation with the centre staff, Kate Middleton recalled a time, shortly after Prince George was born, that she felt very "isolated" as a new mum.
"It was the first year and I'd just had George – William was still working with Search and Rescue - and we came up here and I had a tiny tiny baby in the middle of Anglesey," she said.
"It was so isolated, so cut off. I didn’t have any family around and [William] was doing night shifts. So many families now are so spread out. It's much harder to rely on other generations for support," the Duchess added.
This week, Kate Middleton has launched a new survey as part of her Early Years initiative, which asks adults (regardless of whether they have children or not) to answer five short questions. The intention is to gather information, and to spark a national conversation about early years experience that will help bring about positive, lasting change for generations to come.
