Ice Cube Claims Warner Bros. Will Not Give Him Film Rights to 'Friday'

The battle for the Friday film franchise between Ice Cube and Warner Bros. appears to still be ongoing.

Variety has reported that Ice Cube recently spoke about the issues he has been facing regarding getting the possibility of buying the rights from the studio himself. He spoke on Mike Tyson's Hotboxin podcast that Warner Bros. has neglected to give him the film rights to the Friday franchise he started. He previously starred in and wrote three Friday films, all produced and distributed by New Line Cinema. Since Warner Bros. now owns New Line, Ice Cube is unable to move forward with the fourth installment of the franchise without the studio signing off.

In the podcast, Cube touched on his ongoing discussions with Warner Bros., "I don't know. Warner Bros is weird right now. I don't know what they're doing. They don't know what they're doing. We'd love to have it back. I think it's going be close to a time when we get it back. So, we'll either wait for that time, or we'll keep trying to convince them that they need to let us control the movie. It's my movie, but they have distribution control." When asked if Cube was willing to just pay to have the rights back and control, Cube responded, "I ain't putting shit up for it. F*** no. They need to give it to me, and they're going to make money. I'm not about to pay for my own stuff. That's stupid. They need to do the right thing, get it to us, let us turn it into more money, and make the fans happy...We can do a lot with it."
