Husband dies on honeymoon after colliding with wife on zip line
An Israeli man celebrating his honeymoon on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship died on Thursday after he collided with his wife while zip lining in Honduras, according to Honduran newspaper La Prensa.
Newlyweds Egael Tishman, 24, and Shif Fanken, 27, left Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on July 1 for a seven-day cruise on Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas. The couple disembarked the ship on July 5 to partake in a zip line excursion on the island of Bahia near Roatan, Honduras.
Franken attempted to ride one of the zip lines around 1:30 p.m., but became stuck halfway down the cable, Roatan Fire Department Chief Wilmer Guerrero told La Prensa.
Unaware that his wife was stuck, Tishman began zip lining along the same cable, causing the two to collide mid-air at a high speed. The pair sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital where Tishman succumbed to his injuries.
Fanken was later airlifted to a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., hospital where she underwent emergency surgery, according to Guerrero.
Royal Caribbean spokesman Owen Torres confirmed the accident in a statement to the Miami Herald.
"Our Care Team is providing support and assistance to the guests’ family and friends," Torres said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the couple, and we will continue to do our very best to assist them."
The Israeli Foreign Ministry told the Times of Israel that its embassy in Guatemala is arranging to have Tishman's body flown home for his burial.
