He might be best known for playing Wolverine in the X-Men movie franchise from 2000 to 2017.

Obviously, the role required Hugh to scream, roar, and generally speak in a much deeper tone than his, which he says, unfortunately, caused damage to his vocal chords.

“My teacher at drama school would have been horrified by some of the things I did in Wolverine,” he said in an interview on Front Row by BBC Radio 4 (via Deadline). “I’ve done some damage to my voice, through playing Wolverine.”

“My falsetto is not as strong as it used to be, and I put that down directly to some of the growling and yelling I did," he added.

Hugh's suffered a bunch of other injuries while playing Wolverine, too. He hurt his groin as he attempted a stunt in a harness for the 2000 X-Men movie.

“That was pretty brutal,” he told Yahoo Movies. “I screamed so much, and they kept going because they figured it was me primal-yell emoting.”

He also hurt his ear after falling into a stationary camera during that same shoot. “Mangled ear, mangled wedding tackle," he mused.

Then, he accidentally clawed himself in the face and thigh on the set of 2003’s X-Men 2, and he almost broke his neck after it got caught during a stunt that required him to swing from the inside of a train in 2013's The Wolverine.

And even so, he's still gonna reprise his role in next year's Deadpool 3! That's some true dedication!
