Just after red wine hot chocolate hit the Internet, another hot cocoa treat is here to satisfy winter night cravings. Even better, it'll help cross some people off your gift list.

Hot chocolate ornaments combine a sugar rush with holiday decor, and the result couldn't be more perfect. These sweet treats, spotted on Sprinkle Some Fun (a blog previously named Bubbly Nature Creations), look great on the tree, and taste amazing later on.

Just fill a plastic ornament with hot chocolate mix (Godiva Milk Chocolate Hot Cocoa won our most recent taste test), sprinkles, chocolate chips and marshmallows. Plus, there are tons of ways to change it up. Stir in cinnamon and cayenne pepper to make Mexican hot chocolate, or try malted milk powder and crushed Whoppers for an old-school version.

You can get creative with the outside of the ornament too. Doodle on some designs with a metallic paint pen, or add a festive ribbon along the top, like this project from Le Creme de la Crumb:

It'd be a cinch to whip out a dozen ornaments for neighbors, coworkers and last-minute gift swaps, but there's no reason you can't keep them all for yourself. Besides, a tree decorated entirely with these beauties beats visions of sugar plums any day.
