Listeners of EDM already know John Summit, and this summer, he's about to find a whole new audience of gay fans.

Summit is a popular DJ from Illinois who's been active on the scene since 2017. He's only been getting more popular, performing at Lollapalooza Brazil, EDC Las Vegas, and other big festivals in 2023.

Summit played his first Coachella this year and is getting ready for what's sure to be an energy-filled party with a performance at the Dreamland event in New York City's Central Park during Pride Month. It's a clear sign that his career is going in all the right places.

But unfortunately, because we can't have nice things, haters are going to keep doing what they do best...

"Lost a few hundred followers since I announced I'm playing gay pride party lmfao peace out u insecure homophobes," Summit wrote in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) after being announced as a guest at the Dreamland event. "Idc what u think u cannot deny that the gays know how to fkn PARTY."

Amen to that! It should be every EDM artist's dream to perform at a Pride event like Dreamland, and Summit recognizes that and is proudly defending his decision.

One fan even pointed out that without queer people, there would be no EDM or house music. "They don't know house music was originally a safe space for queer people of color," @CalvinMaturino replied to Summit's tweet.

"Facts!!" Summit said. "They tried to burn down the culture w the disco demolition at comiskey*** and instead house music was born and has since taken over the world."

The Disco Demolition he was referencing is a notorious event held by two Chicago disk jockeys in between baseball games at Comiskey Park, where 80,000 people destroyed disco records and chanted "Disco sucks," ushering in a new era of homophobia in music.

"We are honored to have John Summit headline Dreamland exclusively for our community during Pride," Dreamland organizer Jake Resnicow said in a statement to Out about Summit's response to the homophobia. "John’s commitment not only marks a monumental step forward in the music scene but also sets a precedent that will hopefully inspire other artists. This is a dream come true for our fans to connect with one of our favorite artists in a true safe space. Can't wait to make history together in Central Park!"

We love EDM DJs who know their music history and the importance queer culture has played in it!

Summit is still set to DJ at Dreamland in Central Park on June 30. Tickets are on sale now.
