Are pre-Thanksgiving holiday decorations a faux pas?

Claudia and Nick Simonis of San Antonio didn't think so—until they received a letter from their homeowners association telling them otherwise. On November 1, the parents and their two young kids chose to put up a snowman, a reindeer, and a Santa inflatable in their front yard. Three days later, Diamond Association Management & Consulting sent them an official notice asking that they wait until "closer to the holiday season."

“Maintenance – Holiday Decorations Need To Be Removed,” the letter was titled, according to WOAI San Antonio.

"I felt shocked and angered," Nick shared with CNN. "The HOA has so much time on their hands."

The Simonises had a particularly good reason for decking the halls early this year: Claudia is expecting a baby on December 25, and the family wanted to make sure they wouldn't have to worry about Christmas decorations closer to her due date.

"I just couldn’t believe it," she told NBC News. "My husband sent it to me and I said, 'Are you serious?' ...I’m pregnant. And it took us forever to put them up."

The good news? The Simonises' neighbors are sticking by them. Upon hearing about the incident, one family in the same community decided to put up a small snowman in their own yard, another pitched in with holiday lights, and a third added a few penguins.

"I don't think this should be an issue," neighbor Charles Minton told WOAI. "These are the holidays. This is what we do. We take care of our neighbors."

DAMC did not respond to CNN or the New York Times' requests for comment.
