Dollywood visitors will get to see into the "heart and soul" of Dolly Parton starting in 2024, and the news is giving us butterflies.

Parton and park leaders announced a Dolly Parton Museum will open sometime next year.

The museum will be the "crown jewel and anchor" of a larger expansion called the Dolly Parton Experience, which will explore her faith and family, her "Tennessee Mountain Home" and her wardrobe, according to a video shared on Dollywood's Facebook page.

The country music icon was in Pigeon Forge this week to celebrate the park's 38th season and announce that Big Bear Mountain, Dollywood's longest roller coaster, will open in May.

All about the Dolly Parton Museum

A giant butterfly will welcome visitors into the museum, where they'll hear Dolly's story, in her own words, from her childhood in the Smoky Mountains to the top moments in her career.

The museum will be an "up-close look at Dolly's most treasured things," from family keepsakes to career mementos.

It will feature a giant guitar breaking through "into the star-filled sky, much like little Dolly's wishes and dreams broke through every expectation."

Pete Owens, Dollywood's vice president of marketing and public relations, told Knox News construction on the project last year began quietly last year.

While it’s still a work in progress, Owens said guests began to ask questions about what was going on, so Dollywood decided to make it official.

Plus, he said, Parton herself was eager to share news of the upcoming attraction.

Owens said the museum will be similar to the popular immersive Vincent Van Gogh Experience, with art and animation projected on the walls.

Because the projections can be changed, Owens said the museum has the ability to easily rotate exhibits.

“(Parton’s) always doing new things, always reinventing,” Owens said. “That affords us the opportunity to not have a fixed asset, but one will allow us to add additional experiences.”

What's next for the Dolly Parton Experience?

After the museum opens, the Dolly Parton Experience will expand. Guests will hear stories and relive Dolly's childhood memories at the related Tennessee Mountain Home experience.

The existing Dreamsong Theatre will celebrate Dolly's love of family and faith, "giving us a deeper understanding of how her beloved parents and siblings created a circle of love that supported her throughout her life and career."

The Wardrobe Experience will showcase Dolly's signature gowns, costumes and accessories from her storied 50-year-plus career.
