The movie released on Disney Plus, rather than in theaters, at midnight (one of the spookiest hours) on September 30, 2022. So, you can do a double feature of the new one along with the original, thank Satan.

Most of the original Hocus Pocus cast returned.

Midler, Parker, and Najimy all made their comebacks for Hocus Pocus 2, along with Doug Jones (returning as Billy Butcherson). The film also featured several new characters. They're joined by Ted Lasso's Hannah Waddingham, Veep's Sam Richardson as Gilbert, and Veep's Tony Hale, who plays two different characters: an evil reverend and Salem's mayor. Rounding out the cast are three Drag Race queens: Kornbread Jeté, Ginger Minj, and Kahmora Hall—who each play a drag version of the three witches.

The original movie was directed by Kenny Ortega, but Hocus Pocus 2's director is Anne Fletcher, who previously helmed Step Up, 27 Dresses, and The Proposal. It's written by Jen D'Angelo.

Hocus Pocus 2's plot: Salem is in danger once again.

In the original movie, a teenage boy, Max (Omri Katz) lights a candle that brings the witches back from the dead—on Halloween night. Along with the help of his sister, Dani (Thora Birch), and a talking cat, they successfully manage to destroy the Sanderson witches.

The sequel picks up 29 years later. Once again, the Sanderson sisters have been brought back from the dead—and this time, they're out for revenge. Becca, Cassie, and Izzy must work together to stop the witches' rampage through Salem (and the world).
