Hobbs & Shaw Fans Have Already Spotted a Very Awkward Mistake

While we never expect the Fast & Furious franchise to take itself too seriously, there is a blunder in new movie Hobbs & Shaw that is too glaring to overlook.

The movie sees Jason Statham reprise his role of Deckard Shaw, while we are introduced to his younger sister Hattie, played by Vanessa Kirby.

In case you didn't know, Statham is 52 years old, while Kirby is 31 – and while such a big gap for siblings is not unheard of, there is one aspect of the movie that makes this gap a little too farfetched.

In the movie, we are shown flashbacks that depict Deckard and Hattie carrying out cons when they are children of a similar age... despite the fact that there are 21 years between them in real life.

While films are well within their rights to give or take a few years, such a huge difference seems a tad illogical – at least, that's what the viewers think.

One took to Twitter to write: "What bothered me most is that Jason Statham's (real age 52 but looks 62) character is apparently suppose to be close in age to Vanessa Kirby's (real age 31 but looks 21) character since they are shown as children together."

Another added: "As a #FastAndFurious fanboy, I can suspend my disbelief. 20 mile long runways & cybernetic superhumans: a-ok in my book. But in #HobbsAndShaw, they really expect us to believe Vanessa Kirby & Jason Statham are around the same age?? No way, José! That is where I draw the line!!"

Meanwhile, Statham recently spoke to Digital Spy about the movie and his character's relationship with his (admittedly much, much younger) sister.

"She's always gonna be my little sister," he said. "Anything that she stands for, it's hard for me to see her in the way that she sees herself. Because Shaw knows who she is, what she's capable of."

He added: "And at the end of the day, she needs him. And he is the big brother, the guy to take care of her for her mum's sake.

"And I think the great dynamic is that she doesn't want that. I think there's great tension there too. And there's also a very important need to reconcile their differences."

Hobbs & Shaw is out now.
