[UPDATE 12/16/20 4:00 PM ET]: Unfortunately, it looks like we're going to have to say goodbye to Lizzie McGuire once again. Series star Hilary Duff revealed that the reboot project was officially axed after Disney and production could not reach an agreement on the future of the character and the series.

Here's hoping we'll see it come back in the future!

[Original Post]:

2019 was the year of the TV reboot, but that doesn't mean that 2020 won't be filled with television blessings as well. Hilary Duff just announced that a Lizzie McGuire reboot is happening AKA THIS is what dreams are made of!

Fifteen years after the show last aired, a lot of things are bound to have changed in the lives of Lizzie, Miranda, and Gordo. So, what will the show be about and who will be returning? Here's everything we know about the show and what we can expect from Lizzie McGuire 2.0.

Have there been an updates recently?

It looks like things are going in the right direction thanks to a brand new update from Hilary Duff. While talking to PopSugar, the actress revealed that talks have continued recently with Disney about the reboot.

"Disney has certain things that have to be met for their brand, and I totally understand that, and they totally understand my needs," she said. "So we're in a really good place of being like, 'Hey, we pressed pause, and we're regrouping.' There's been a lot of like creative meetings, obviously virtually. I think we're on the right path, and I want it to happen more than anyone and they obviously feel the same way."

She noted that the show is currently on pause due to the pandemic, but that Disney is still "really excited about the reboot and dedicated to making it work."

Hopefully this means that the show can start filming right away as soon as they can start filming.

Will the Lizzie McGuire reboot actually move to Hulu?

Hilary Duff has shown her support for the Lizzie McGuire reboot and her hope that it would move to Hulu. Unfortunately, it looks like talks about it haven't started yet. "I appreciate her fandom," Craig Erwich, Hulu’s head of original content told Vanity Fair. "We have not had any conversations with Hilary Duff around her show."

The move from Disney+ to Hulu would allow the show to focus on more adult topics. There's still no word on whether or not production will restart after Disney+ hit pause on filming due to the more mature content in the first two episodes. Here's hoping they can come to a solution that will make everyone happy.

What will the Lizzie McGuire reboot be about?

While the show is currently paused for production, The Hollywood Reporter revealed what the show possibly be about if their original version actually was released. The first episode of the revival surrounded around the "existence of sex with cheating as a central plot point."

Although The Hollywood Reporter didn't reveal if Lizzie was the one who cheated or the one who was cheated on, it might make sense why Lizzie's ex, Gordo, would be back.

Is it happening?

This is where things get tricky. The show finished production on the first two episodes before things were shut down after Disney+ reviewed them. As of right now, Disney+ announced that they are still looking forward to moving on with the series and are currently in the process of finding a new showrunner. Meanwhile, Hilary Duff has asked the streaming service to move the series to Hulu to explore more adult topics, like the Love, Simon sequel series Love, Victor.

What is it going to be about?

Since the show went off air 14 years ago, by now Lizzie and her crew would be around 30, dealing with the trials and tribulations of early adulthood. Hilary, who gave birth to her second child a few months ago, has some ideas about what the reboot would be about, but motherhood isn't on the table, at least for now.

"I don't think she's a mom yet, but she might be getting there soon," she told Entertainment Weekly.

Who else will be in it?

Hilary is definitely in, we know that much. "I mean I love her so much," she told Entertainment Tonight. "I think she was so important to girls at an important time in their life. If she could be important to them again at this age, I think that would be amazing."

Meanwhile, Lizzie's family is also back and they all got together for a cute family pic with the first script in her new apartment.

Gordo is also back! While it's still under wraps why the two exes are reuniting, it's still nice to see the former BFFs together again!
